Brigette is a passionate advocacy consultant with a deep-seated commitment to eradicating human trafficking. Drawing from her own lived experience, she leverages her journey to inform her work and connect with individuals and organizations dedicated to social justice.
As an award-winning advocate, Brigette has been recognized for her relentless efforts in influencing policy changes at both local and national levels. Her expertise in human trafficking issues has positioned her as a sought-after speaker and consultant, where she collaborates with lawmakers, nonprofits, and community organizations to develop and implement effective strategies aimed at prevention and support for survivors.
In addition to her advocacy work, Brigette is devoted to mentorship. She believes in empowering the next generation of advocates by sharing her knowledge and experiences, fostering resilience, and encouraging proactive approaches to advocacy. Through workshops, seminars, and one-on-one coaching, she helps emerging leaders navigate the complexities of social policy and advocacy.

The experience of survival is not just about escaping a dire situation; it's about reclaiming our identities and rediscovering the joy of life. Each of our stories are unique, yet collectively they highlight the urgent need for awareness, advocacy, and education to combat the exploitation of people within our communities. Our voices inspire change and foster hope, reminding us of the power we hold in the face of adversity.

Education
I earned my degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University, marking a significant achievement in my life. The program provided deep insights into social justice, sparking my passion for systemic change. This degree symbolized my right to freedom, and it set me on a path as a change-maker.
Professional Licensure Requirement
I engaged with policymakers to emphasize the importance of integrating human trafficking training into licensure requirements, promoting a standard that all professionals could adhere to. My goal, with success, was to create a more informed and responsive healthcare system that could better support victims and contribute to the broader fight against human trafficking in our communities.
National HUD Policy
After encountering numerous obstacles in securing housing, I embarked on a mission to advocate for myself, emphasizing on the need for safe housing. I attended a Michigan State Housing Development Authority board meeting, where I presented my case that we as victim's should be deemed homeless under the HUD category 1 preference. My testimony resonated with the board members, leading to a statewide memorandum to all housing agencies. My advocacy influenced the adoption of federal policy, which now recognizes victims fleeing human trafficking as eligible for housing assistance.
Board Participation
I currently represent survivors, as a board member for the State of Michigan Human Trafficking Health Advisory Board, influencing policies to combat human trafficking. With experience on the boards and committees of the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and Child Protective Services Protocol, my work has reflected a commitment to driving change for those affected by trauma and systemic challenges.
Community Outreach
I have trained over 10,000 individuals, including professionals, students, community members, on human trafficking, leveraging my personal experience to raise awareness and provide knowledge on prevention and recognition. My interactive trainings empowered participants to take action and advocate against this critical issue in our communities.
Awards
I am honored to have received the prestigious Rising Phoenix Award from the Intentional Living Collection. This accolade reflects my commitment to fostering positive change and community advocacy. Additionally, I was presented with a challenge coin from the City of Dowagiac Police Department acknowledging my efforts to raise awareness and collaborate with law enforcement to build safer communities.
